This was reported by Financial Ombudsman Svetlana Maximova at the Insur-Selling-2024 conference (“Insurance Sales: Potential and Prospects”), which was held in Moscow on 21 March.
“In general, the number of appeals to the FOS in 2023, according to preliminary estimates, was about 134,000, which is almost 19,000 less than in 2022. The overwhelming number of appeals (117,633) was received in relation to insurance organisations. Of the total number of appeals against insurance organisations, 85% are related to motor insurance, mainly under MTPL contracts, and 15% of appeals are related to other types of insurance,” Svetlana Maksimova informed.
The average amount of claims on insurance organisations was about 238.5 thousand rubles in 2023, while the amount increased by almost 10,000 compared to 2022.
The leaders in the number of claims in 2023 are still Krasnodar Territory, Moscow, Bashkiria, Moscow Region and Tatarstan. At the same time, while Krasnodar Territory is the leader in absolute numbers, Archangelsk Region (408 appeals per 100,000 population) and Nizhny Novgorod Region are the leaders in the relative number of appeals per 100,000 population.
