Monday - Friday from 8:00 to 20:00 (Moscow time), except public holidays, free call from regions of RussiaThe Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is to take part in the 12th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPILF), which is scheduled to take place on 26–28 June 2024.
As part of the event, the Service is organising a session “Legal regulation, practice and prospects of out-of-court resolution of financial disputes” focused on the protection of the rights of consumers of financial services. The session, which is to take place on the first day of the Forum (26 June), will be attended by Chief Financial Ombudsman Yury Voronin, Financial Ombudsmen Viktor Klimov, Svetlana Maximova and Denis Novak, as well as representatives of the Bank of Russia, the Ulyanovsk Region Government, professional associations and academia.
During the session, the participants are expected to discuss trends related to disputes between consumers of financial services and financial institutions, issues of countering unfair practices of financial institutions, proposals to improve the current procedure of out-of-court dispute resolution by the Financial Ombudsman, to achieve a balance of interests between financial market participants, as well as to enhance the functioning of the Financial Ombudsman’s institution.
Besides, the Chief Financial Ombudsman is going to take part as a speaker in four other sessions of the forum. Thus, he is scheduled to speak at the sessions “Unfair practices in the consumer market”, “Balance of interests of the claimant and the debtor in enforcement proceedings: in search of the optimal model”, “Effective protection of citizens’ rights in the financial market: information, dispute resolution, fair contractual terms”, “Let’s reconcile: mediation or meditation?”.
The SPILF is the largest platform for dialogue between representatives of the legal, business, political and law enforcement communities on issues of law in the interests of citizens, business, improvement of law enforcement practice, promotion of legislative initiatives for the advancement of legal culture and regulation of social and economic sphere in the current context.
The Forum is held by the Russian Ministry of Justice and the Roscongress Foundation in accordance with Presidential Decree No. 55 of 15 February 2022.
