The Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) is to participate in the 11th St. Petersburg International Legal Forum (SPIEF), which is scheduled to take place on May 11–13, 2023.
This year, the Service is organizing two sessions at the event that focus on the protection of the rights of consumers of financial services:
1. International experience in out-of-court protection of consumer rights in financial services.
2. The role of the Financial Ombudsman Service as a tool to protect the rights of consumers and improve the legislation.
The sessions will be attended by Chief Financial Ombudsman Yury Voronin, Head of the Ombudsman for financial services consumers support Service (OFSC) Olga Kraynova, Financial Ombudsmen Viktor Klimov and Denis Novak, representatives from the Bank of Russia, the Russian Supreme Court, professional associations, as well as members of the academia, and experts.
Representatives of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus, the Banking Ombudsman of the Republic of Kazakhstan have been invited to participate in the session “International experience in out-of-court protection of consumer rights in financial services”.
Besides, the speakers at other sessions of the forum will include specialists of the Financial Ombudsman Service.
SPIEF is the largest dialogue ground for representatives of the legal, business, political and law enforcement communities to discuss legal issues in the interests of citizens, business, in order to improve law enforcement practices and promote legislative initiatives to develop a legal culture and regulation of the socio-economic sphere in the current environment.
The Forum is held by the Russian Ministry of Justice and the Roscongress Foundation in accordance with the Russian Presidential Decree No. 55 dated February 15, 2022.
The key goal of the Forum is to promote the ideas of law modernization in the present-day context of global change.
