Chief Financial Ombudsman and Lipetsk Governor sign a cooperation agreement

Chief Financial Ombudsman Yury Voronin and Governor of the Lipetsk Region Igor Artamonov signed an agreement on interaction aimed at improving the efficiency of protecting the rights of financial services consumers.

The objective of the agreement is to establish conditions for improving legal and financial literacy of residents of the Lipetsk region, as well as informing them about the Financial Ombudsman Service (FOS) activities.

The agreement envisages an impressive programme of activities for 2024-2026. In particular, it is planned to organise a large-scale information and awareness work among the residents of the Lipetsk Region. Citizens will be told about the institute of the Financial Ombudsman Service, as well as about the mandatory out-of-court dispute resolution procedure between financial institutions and consumers of financial services.

As Chief Financial Ombudsman Yury Voronin noted, “It is important to tell consumers of financial services how to have their property rights protected when the need arises.” He was confident that the cooperation would be efficacious and mutually beneficial.

As follows from the FOS Annual Report, the residents of the Lipetsk region submitted 1,599 appeals to the Financial Ombudsman in 2023. The subject matter of appeals is defined by law: consumer complaints about non-fulfilment of contractual relations by insurance companies, credit institutions – banks and microfinance institutions, non-state pension funds, pawnshops and credit consumer cooperatives.

The Lipetsk Region has already become the seventh region with whose executive authorities similar agreements have been signed, and the sixth region in the Central Federal District.
